THEIR previous owner has not been charged and her identity still not revealed by police, but Jess and Jeremiah – the two abused dogs rescued from Diego Martin – are now up for adoption.

In early March, police rescued the dogs from an abusive owner at St Lucien Road, Diego Martin, after residents made their situation go viral on social media.

They were severely malnourished. Neighbours said the owner was not feeding them owing to the fear of "breeding rats." There were signs on the gate saying “Keep away,” and “Stop feeding the dogs."

The dogs were taken to the vet and were diagnosed with heartworm disease and kidney failure, among other things.

After a month of veterinary care, they are now at the Trinidad and Tobago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (TTSPCA) animal shelter in Port of Spain and are looking for a loving home, like many other animals there.

The TTSPCA posted a video of the two being reunited at the shelter on Saturday, with the caption: "Jess had her final treatment and was able to leave the clinic today! Jeremiah was there to greet his friend and he couldn't have been any happier!

"Jess was a little unsure of her new surroundings, but, within a few minutes, she had settled in."

The TTSPCA thanked everyone who shared their case and donated funds to help with their treatment.

"You have literally saved their lives!" it said. "Now, please help us give them the second chance they deserve by helping us to get a great home for them."
