Fifteen vendors are expected to appear before the Port of Spain Magistrates' Court on June 22 after they were charged with illegal vending and assault on Thursday.

They were granted station bail of $15,000.

The vendors were on Charlotte Street and Independence Square around 10 am, when they were approached by acting Sgt Deoraj and Cpl Maharaj of the Port of Spain City Police Street Enforcement Unit.

The vendors were unable to show documentation from the city corporation to show they had permission to sell on the streets.

As a result, members of the corporation seized goods and police arrested 14 vendors.

In a separate incident, a 30-year-old vendor of Erica Street, Laventille, was arrested and charged after he refused to follow police instructions.

The man hit one police officer when he tried to arrest him. He was later charged with assault.

The vendor appeared before justice of the peace Stephen Young and was granted $20,000 bail with a surety. He is expected to appear virtually before the Port of Spain Magistrates' Court on June 22.
