Police kill man in Enterprise scuffle

Jade Phillip was shot and killed by police after a scuffle with officers on patrol Friday morning.

Police said Phillip first pulled a gun and pointed it at them after they stopped his vehicle on Enterprise Street, Enterprise, Chaguanas.

This is the 16th police-involved killing for 2021.

The police said when Phillip was stopped, they saw him pointing a gun from inside the car in their direction as they approached. As a result, one officer fired at Phillip, they said, and he got out of the vehicle and tried to escape.

There was a scuffle between Phillip and the police when they tried to arrest him. They said during the scuffle Phillip snatched one of the officers' guns and pointed it at another officer.

Another officer drew his gun and shot Phillip.

He was handcuffed and transported to the Chaguanas Health Facility, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

One gun was found at the scene. Investigations are continuing.
