SAN Fernando Mayor Junia Regrello has said malfunctioning traffic lights in the city will be fixed by next Friday.

For the past week, the traffic lights at Paria Suites, Sunset Cove, Gulf City and Union Hall have not been working. Drivers have been complaining about the high risk of accidents because of this.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Regrello said the Ministry of Works and Transport is aware of the situation.

"However," he said, "due to technical difficulties, the units will be repaired by the end of next week.

"Until this problem is rectified, traffic wardens and police officers have been assigned to specific areas, to ensure the smooth and safe flow of traffic."

Drivers were advised to be careful while travelling in the affected areas.
