A private-hire (PH) taxi driver of Carapichaima has been granted $150,000 bail with a surety while two other men were remanded into custody by a Chaguanas magistrate before whom they appeared on charges of raping a Venezuelan woman in October 2020.

A TTPS press release on Wednesday stated that PH driver Joshua Ramlakhan, 22; Terrence Robinson, 28, a landscaper of Bank Village, Carapichaima and Joel Williams, 28, a mechanic of Chase Village appeared before Magistrate Adrian Darmanie on April 19.

The three were arrested and charged on April 18 for rape by PC Ramcharan of the Freeport Police Station. The three men were not called upon to plead.

Ramlakhan was granted bail with a surety and a curfew which commences at 9 pm to 6 am every day. Robinson and Williams were both remanded into custody. The three are expected to reappear before the court on May 17.

A report was made to police that on October 13, a woman boarded a car she thought was being operated as a taxi which contained three men including the driver. She was picked up at Isaac Junction in Couva, and asked to be taken to Freeport.

She was instead taken to a pavilion in Carapichaima where she was sexually assaulted by the three men. The woman later went to the Freeport Police Station and made a report.
