Muslims began Ramadan – the month-long period of fasting – this week, and for a second year during the covid19 pandemic. The end of Ramadan is marked by the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.

While last year, all houses of worship were closed, this year Muslims are allowed to worship in mosques under strict public health guidelines. Sunday Newsday shares the moments of prayer and breaking of the fast in the first days of the holy season.
