Global unity,peace cansave world

THE EDITOR: Webster’s Twentieth Century Dictionary defines life as “that property of plants and animals which makes it possible for them to take in food, get energy from it, grow, adapt themselves to their surroundings and reproduce their kind.” It is fundamental for the continued existence and well-being of all things, be they animate or inanimate.

Newtonian principle states that for every action there is an equal amount of reaction. In time, we reap what we sow. When a stone is cast into water, a chain-like rippling effect can be observed. The things that we do and say present multiplier effects that affects the lives of generations to come.

How can the world become a better place when men’s minds are becoming toxic with prejudice, hate and revenge? Turbulence is rearing its head in many quarters of our global village. The potential threat of nuclear attack is imminent as countries such as North Korea posturise with flexing muscles and gumption.

The great philosopher Plato had said, “People are like dirt. They can either nourish you and help you grow as a person or they can stunt your growth and make you wilt and die.”

Throughout the world, people are becoming bitter and vengeful. The philosopher Confucius reminds us that before we embark on a journey of revenge, we must dig two graves. The people must seek ways to handle anger management and pent-up frustration. We must attack the evil that lies within us, rather than attacking the evil that is in others.

The world seems to be set on an extermination mode. Nevertheless, we must strive to build a global environment of unity and peace that would slow the pace of destruction as well as making life comfortable and enjoyable for all.
