Flavourama festival arouses foodies
THE extensive gastronomic variety displayed at the opening of Flavourama last weekend and the support of visitors and food lovers have encouraged organisers to repeat the event this weekend.
More than 400 people visited the food and arts fair at Barbados Road, Federation Park, last Friday and Saturday.
Organiser of Flavourama, Milena Rodríguez, was impressed by the success of the inaugural event: “It was very nice to see that people were encouraged to visit the fair in a familiar, comfortable and traditional environment where they could taste their favourite foods or explore new delicacies."
Twenty-five vendors participated in the Flavourma, which adhered to covid19 protocols. Visitors had choices ranging from savoury to sweet products.
Rodríguez told Newsday the vendors offered everything from world-class Italian food, traditional Venezuelan arepas, empanadas and cachapas to sushi, hot dogs and burgers. There was also barbecue, pork cuts, and traditional Jamaican and Guyanese foods.
As for sweets, the Arab desserts delighted patrons. Also the so-called "Venezuelan tetas" (sucka bag), cakes, cheeses, golfeados, bombs and natural juices.
The Flavourama fair will be set up again this Friday and Saturday from 3 pm.
Despite the announcement of restrictions on public gathering of no more than five, Flavourama will continue with all the corresponding security measures and health protocols in place.
Regarding the protocols, Rodríguez said: "We understand the sanitary and distancing measures to prevent contagion of covid19, so we will implement greater security in the place."
