Heavily armed police swooped down on the Tokyo Hotel in San Fernando midmorning on Friday.

Police, members of the Preventative Unit of the Customs and Excise Division based in Port of Spain and fire officers were seen searching the building at St James Street.

Up to 2 pm, police said neither illegal migrants nor illegal items had been found.

Newsday learnt the search was part of a multi-agency approach which also included the Bureau of Standards, the Electrical Inspectorate Division and representatives from the Occupational Safety and Health Agency.

The team was expected to search other businesses as part of an ongoing excise in the Southern Division.
