The Santa Rosa First Peoples Community in Arima offered prayers in solidarity with those affected by the La Soufriere volcano eruption in St Vincent.

In a statement released on Monday, it said, “We send our prayers to the Creator for wisdom and direction to the country’s leaders, and for comfort to the citizens until the eruption subsides.”

It said the community is particularly concerned for the welfare of those who were displaced from their homes to safer areas. “These citizens include the indigenous peoples of the island.”

It said they hope the assistance needed to rebuild homes, and the economy, would be provided.

“We are committed to giving support within our means, and encourage countries, and organisations in a position to do so, to extend a helping hand to St Vincent and the Grenadines.”
