A family of three is now homeless after a fire completely gutted their Point D'Or Road, La Brea home on Sunday afternoon.

Point Fortin fire officials said it happened around 1.50 pm and the cause remains unknown.

Two women and a man lived there. No one was injured.

Residents told Newsday the family had a food business and sold chicken and chips.

One nearby businessperson told Newsday, "My heart stopped when I saw it. I was right here and it was so sad."

The person added, "The fire officials came as fast as they could, given the distance they had to come from. If there was a substation near La Brea or something, maybe the house could have been saved."

Newsday contacted a member of the family but they declined to speak with the media.
