THE EDITOR: On March 1 at around 3.30 pm I was walking down Lady Chancellor Hill after completing my run – something I do almost ever afternoon. I was facing cars coming towards me and my back was to cars driving down the hill.

Near to lamp post No31 a car driven by a woman came around the bend, which she took too wide. There was a loud bang as she hit me and I fell backwards. Fortunately for me there was a short wall there or I would have gone over the precipice.

The right side of my head hit the wall and my right wrist broke with the impact of the car hitting me. At the time the driver thought it was the side mirror that hit my wrist. I am right-handed.

No other joggers were passing at the time as it was an overcast and gloomy day and had rained a bit much earlier.

I called someone to pick me up and went to St Clair for treatment. The driver called her daughter to probably assist her – they live somewhere on the hill so she came very quickly. They both know me as they see me all the time running.

To this day she has not compensated me nor made any effort to do so. That really is troubling as she led me to believe she was an honest person and I had compassion for her at the time, as she appeared to be a bit elderly with grey hair and was of course shaken up by what happened. The only details of her that I have are her name and a phone number.

My hand is still in a cast and naturally my movements and life are on hold.

So to joggers, walkers, runners, do be careful, for while accidents can and do happen, it is how things are dealt with that leave us all traumatised in the aftermath.
