Global Finance names Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago’s best bank

Scotiabank, for the second consecutive year, has been named TT’s best bank by New York’s Global Finance magazine.

The 28th annual awards honours banks from 30 countries and territories in the Americas.

Managing director and soon to be senior vice president and head of the Caribbean Stephen Bagnarol said despite the challenges of the covid19 pandemic, Scotiabank demonstrated resilience.

“I am so proud of the team and what they have been able to accomplish. Our employees continue to deliver excellence, earning the trust and confidence of our customers. Notwithstanding the impact of the global pandemic, our team and customers have risen to the challenge and really demonstrated their resilience.

He said its senior management team called over 10,000 of its customers and used this feedback to action improvements.

“Our customers motivate us to do better. Throughout the pandemic we have gotten even closer to our customers, proactively calling them and using our customer feedback system.”

Incoming managing director Gayle Pazos, who assumes office on May 1, said she was proud of the achievements and noted the strides made in the technological advancements in the delivery of its services.

“Our investments in technology and the expansion of our ATM network have helped our customers do their banking safely and securely, closer to home.

“We also have several new digital offerings on the horizon that will make it even easier to do business with us. We are committed to continuous improvement and putting our customers at the forefront of everything we do as we strive to be the best relationship bank.”

Publisher and editorial director at Global Finance said, “Banks were playing a key role in economic recovery around the world. Our awards highlighted the leaders in restoring growth and mapping a way forward.”

Global Finance said in the past the winners were honoured at an awards ceremony held during the World Bank/IMF annual meetings but because of the covid19 pandemic the event has been halted.

The winners for 2021 are:

Regional winner in the Caribbean – Banreservas from the Dominican Republic.

Regional winner in Central America – BAC Credomatic which has branches in Costa Rica, Honduras and Panama

Regional winner in Latin America – Itaú Banco which has branches Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay and Uruguay.
