MINISTER of Foreign and Caricom Affairs Dr Amery Browne has said that no Trinidad and Tobago nationals who are in St Vincent have contacted the ministry for help with relocation after the eruption of the La Soufriere volcano.

The volcano erupted on Friday morning and evacuation has been under way since Thursday in the north of St Vincent, which is being called the "red zone."

On Friday afternoon, Browne told Newsday, "TT has no permanent mission or diplomatic staff on the island, but the ministry is receiving updated information from NEMO (National Emergency Management Organisation) authorities and from CDEMA (Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency) via the Caricom Secretariat.

"We are also in direct communication with TT nationals in St Vincent, who are all residing near the capital to the south of the island and are accounted for and safe."

No TT nationals have asked to be evacuated thus far.

In a release, the ministry said, "Nationals are urged to contact the Ministry of Foreign and Caricom Affairs at e-mail address nationalsinsvg@foreign.gov.tt to register their names, contact information, and current status."
