Traffic will now be diverted onto a temporary Bailey bridge set up at the Morvant Junction as part of the Morvant to Maritime Roundabout upgrade project.

During a tour of the project on Wednesday, Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan said traffic will be diverted to allow further work on widening the road and on the bridge south of Morvant Junction as well.

He said the bridge should be in place for the next three months.

Sinanan said the project was proposed as a potential relief measure for traffic congestion and flooding in the area.

The project brief said the full reconstruction and widening of the bridge will facilitate the required lanes of traffic and the anticipated volume of water during heavy rain. Contractors will also build a pedestrian sidewalk, lay-bys, slope stabilisation systems, and drainage.

The project cost an estimated $48.5 million. Construction began on August 3, 2020 and is 45 per cent complete.
