Energy Ministry to probe NiQuan Energy explosion

The Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries has said the explosion in Pointe-a-Pierre was a result of a component failure at one of NiQuan Energy Trinidad Ltd plants.

In a media release it said there were no reports of casualties nor injuries arising from the incident, which occurred around 6.30 am on Wednesday.

“The situation was quickly brought under control by members of the fire services from the Mon Repos fire station, along with NiQuan ground managers and officials of the plant who are at the location.”

It said the ministry has been in constant contact with NiQuan officials, and the public will be updated as more information becomes available.

It said it was also in the process of setting up a technical team to investigate the cause of the incident.
