A Carenage man was granted $300,000 bail when he appeared before a Port of Spain magistrate charged with sexual penetration of a girl.

Trevin Mattadeen, 23, appeared before magistrate Adia Mohammed on Tuesday.

He was granted bail, with a surety, to be approved by a registrar of the court, or a cash alternative of $30,000. As part of his bail conditions, he is to have no direct or indirect contact with the victim.

Mattadeen is alleged to have committed the offence sometime between January 1, 2018 and March 31, 2019.

He was arrested on April 1 by officers of the Western Division’s Child Protection Unit and charged the next day by WPC Cox.

Investigations were supervised by acting Supt Claire Guy-Alleyne, head of the police’s Gender-Based Violence Unit, and Insp Aroon.
