Prize time for pollution poster winners

IN commemoration of World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) 2021, the Consumer Affairs Division of the Ministry of Trade and Industry hosted a poster competition in March for students 12-17 years.

The competition challenged participants to creatively depict how they can tackle plastic pollution based on the WCRD 2021 theme Tackling Plastic Pollution, said a media release from the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Taking first place was Kester Branche, a form two student of Trinity College East, Trincity, while the second place went to Tahlia Peters who is a form three student of St Madeleine Secondary School. They were presented with prizes on March 29 at the ministry's office, Nicholas Towers, Independence Square, Port of Spain.

During the brief prize-giving ceremony Minister of Trade and Industry Sen Paula Gopee-Scoon encouraged the students to continue to do their part at home and school in tackling plastic pollution. She said, “Every choice made as a consumer is very important to the health of the environment. We all have a part to play and we must do what we can as responsible consumers to preserve Trinidad and Tobago.”
