Education and Health meet to discuss schools' reopening

OFFICIALS of the Ministries of Education and Health will meet on Tuesday to discuss the re-opening of schools for senior primary school students preparing to sit the Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) exam.

In a phone interview on Monday, Education Minister Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly said, “The Ministry of Education officials meet with the Ministry of Health officials on Tuesday.

“We will discuss the issue of the return of primary school students. Of course, the standard five students who have the SEA exam and we will discuss that tomorrow in detail.”

She added that recommendations will be made which will then be discussed at the level of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet.

In January, Gadsby-Dolly then said that it was proceeding with plans to have a phased re-opening of schools. However, there has been a marked increase in covid19 cases with 42 new cases on Sunday and the active cases moving from under 100 cases in March to 385 up to Sunday.

The standard five students were expected to return to schools on April 12.
