THE National Security Ministry repatriated 178 Venezuelans on Friday after they asked to be returned home.

The group left via boat on Friday during an Immigration Division managed project in collaboration with the Coast Guard and the Venezuelan government, said the ministry in a media release on Saturday.

Relatives of the returnees said some were in a hurry to return to their country, and many have been waiting for the trip since last November.

In February, a repatriation flight from Piarco to Caracas, organised by the Venezuelan government, took 96 Venezuelans home. Since then, the Venezuelan embassy in Port of Spain has continued to receive requests for the repatriation flights.
