The Women in jazz series which was a staple at MovieTowne during April is being replaced by D Jazz in We.

The series which over the past nine years featured some of the best women jazz artistes in TT was cancelled last year due to the covid19 pandemic

From April 3, the new celebration, D Jazz in We will highlight four talented artistes on the Fiesta Plaza stage at Invaders Bay, Port of Spain. A media release from MovieTowne said the artistes will showcase many of the jazz standards as well as incorporate in their repertoire, a soca or calypso, performed in a cool Caribbean jazz style.

Ju-Né made her debut as a professional vocalist with Forward the Band and has shared the stage with international and local artistes. Her love for jazz blossomed in MusicTT’s Spotlight Programme.

Aaron Ifill will open the series at 8 pm. Ifill, who has been performing for a number of years, was previously featured on the Fiesta Plaza stage in The Discover Me Artiste of The Month series in 2017. After completing his BA in Music Education at The College of Science Technology and Applied Arts of TT (COSTAATT), he went on to hone his talent, writing and releasing three singles titled Mystery Lady, Let You Go, and Rise, which also featured jazz singer Candace Caton.

Ju-Né will follow on April 10. Born and raised in Tobago, she describes herself as a jazz/neo soul artiste and says this genre soothes her spirit and she finds great joy and amusement for vocal curls and scatting. She enjoys the music of Ledisi, Lala Hatthaway, Gregory Porter, Etta James and many more.

Ju-Né made her debut as a professional vocalist with Forward the Band, founded by Tobago musicians, and has shared the stage at concerts with international Nigerian gospel songwriter and singer Sinach, international gospel minister and singer Jonathan Nelson, Travis Green and international Multi Award Winning Gospel singer/songwriter Helen Baylor. In 2019 Ju-Né enrolled in MusicTT’s Spotlight Programme and this is where her love of jazz blossomed, the release said.
