Church boards can run govt schools

THE EDITOR: Government schools ought to be under the control of denominational boards. Although having their vision and mission statements, they have not been able to significantly assist students to desired levels of academic success.

Denominational schools have their own unique forms of sociology, psychology and philosophy. Unfortunately, government schools are sadly lacking with respect to any such characteristics. The main reason is because of the general lack of spirituality of teachers and administrators.

Any citizen can get employment in a government school by participating an interview that does not seek to assess one’s spirituality. On the other hand, denominational boards have been able to get the better recruits since applicants must have a record of high involvement in church affairs.

Denominational schools have fundamental checks and balances for ensuring the effective delivery of the curriculum. Laissez faire teachers can be easily brought under the microscopic lenses of the school board to be quickly reprimanded. The process of disciplining a government school teacher often involves a long drawn-out process. Therefore a teacher may continue to be irregular, unpunctual and unproductive until he or she retires.

It would be to the benefit of the future of our education system and country if the Government hands over the schools to the church boards. All denominational boards and committees are equipped for dealing with the challenges that may come their way.
