Carapichaima man charged with setting his house on fire

Central Division police charged a 63-year-old man with arson and malicious damage after he allegedly set fire to the house where he lives.

Andre Shallow of Carapichaima was expected to appear before a Chaguanas magistrate on Monday.

A police release said at about 11.15 pm on Friday, officers responded to a house fire report at Lyons Drive, Orange Field Road in Carapichaima.

They saw a wooden and galvanised house in flames. The fire also partially burnt a parked car outside the house.

Officers from the Chaguanas fire station also responded and put out the fire. No one was injured.

Police cautioned and arrested Shallow, the sole occupant, and formally charged him on Saturday.

The release on Monday estimated the damage at $48,000.
