An area near the entrance of Macqueripe beach in Tucker Valley, Chaguaramas, is being cleared for a new carpark for joggers, visitors to the Bamboo Cathedral and the tracking station.

General manager of the Chaguaramas Development Authority Karen Clark-Rowley said the carpark was necessary because of hindrances caused by people parking on the roadside.

Newsday understands that people will no longer be allowed to park alongside the road in Tucker Valley or near the barrier across the road to the Bamboo Cathedral, and will risk being towed and/or fined.

On Friday, Clark-Rowley said, "We're clearing some land to provide parking for the walkers in the area."

She said is being constructed "in-house," without a contractor, and is necessary because people "park on the verges and they create a lot of traffic. This is on mornings and on weekends.

"We are trying to make it safe for people, so we have cleared an area to get them off the verges."

Clark-Rowley could not give an estimated cost or estimated completion date of the project.

Just days ago, the CDA invited tenders for upgrading the Chaguaramas Golf Course (phase two) and refurbishing Nature Trails and Parks' Gasparee Cave Welcome Centre in Chaguaramas. It has also closed the Macqueripe beach facility recently for urgent repairs to its infrastructure.
