Icacos woman, 47, dies after falling overboard

A 47-year-old Icacos woman who fell off a boat off the coast of Cedros on Thursday has died.

A police report said the incident happened at about 9.30 am, and within minutes, Devika Edwards was dead.

The report said Edwards and a group of villagers were on a fishing expedition. She had been complaining of feeling unwell. she suddenly fell overboard. The villagers immediately pulled her out of the water and the crew returned to the shore.

Edwards was taken to Cedros Health Centre at St Marie Road in Bonasse Village, where she died.

Sgt Tutkoo is leading investigations.

In a similar but unrelated incident in Cedros, 14-year-old Matthew Sookoo of Fullarton Village, fell overboard in a boat accident on Saturday. Coast Guard officers found his body two days later, on Monday, .

Matthew, a form three student of Cedros Secondary School, would have been 15 in July.

His funeral is scheduled for Friday afternoon in Cedros.
