A Carapichaima man has been put on a $3,000 bond to keep the peace for two years and ordered to pay compensation of $3,500 to a Petit Valley woman who paid him to instal a wrought-iron door at her home in 2017.

After he failed to deliver in the three weeks as promised, and the woman unsuccessfully tried to get back her money, she made a report to the Fraud Squad.

Imraz Mohammed was arrested on Friday and charged with larceny this week. He appeared before Port of Spain magistrate Indar Jagroo on Thursday and pleaded guilty.

His attorney, Bhimal Marajh, submitted in his plea of mitigation that Mohammed had a clean record and was deeply remorseful.

Mohammed was also slapped with two other charges of obtaining property by the use of a dishonoured cheque for $21,230, and obtaining credit by false pretences. These charges were transferred to the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court, since the alleged offences took place in that district.

The charges were read to Mohammed when he appeared before Jagroo, but he was not called to enter a plea before they were transferred to the Chaguanas District Court, where he will appear on Friday.
