A NEW council of the Law Association has been voted in.

Senior criminal defence attorney Sophia Chote, SC, was unopposed as president. Voted in as vice-president was deputy chairman of the Integrity Commission Rajiv Persad. He received 501 votes.

Some 1,022 members voted on Friday at a virtual AGM and election. There are some 3,000 members in the association eligible to vote.

There were no valid nominations for the position of treasurer, and a resolution was put to members to extend the date for nominations to March 31.

At the AGM, members also voted for ten senior and five ordinary members.

The ten senior ordinary members are:

Shankar Bidaisee (with the highest number of votes, 641)

The five ordinary members are:
