MP visits first babies born at Pt Fortin hospital
THERE were toothy smiles on the faces of four new mothers who were among the first to give birth at the fully functional maternity ward at the Point Fortin Hospital.
Four babies, two boys and two girls were the first born on March 17, between the hours of 1.45 am and 1.20 pm. .
On Thursday, MP Kennedy Richards and his wife, Sade, presented gift baskets to the mothers to celebrate the birth of their children and as well as the complete move of maternity facilities from the old hospital at Mahaica.
Richards told the Newsday that he and his wife wanted to present the gift baskets to the mothers of New Year’s babies but because the department was still at the old building, they decided to wait until the maternity unit was fully functional in the new $1.2 billion building at Techier.
“My wife, Sade, was really the one who came up with the idea to celebrate the new mothers.
“We waited until the hospital was fully opened on Monday.
“On Wednesday four women from in and around Point Fortin gave birth and we were just happy to celebrate them.”
The four mothers are, Nichelle Roberts who delivered a boy at 1.45 am, Marlene Lewis who brought the first girl at the hospital around 5.37 am, Crystal St Bernard who also gave birth to a boy at 10.54 am and Jodee Jasper who delivered another bouncing baby girl at 1.20 pm.
Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley formally opened the 100-bed facility, last July but it took approximately eight months for the full transition to take place.
