Chelsea Rampersad, the alleged getaway driver held in connection with Tuesday’s armed robbery and shooting death of her child’s father in Barrackpore, faced a Princes Town magistrate charged with three offences.

Rampersad, who turned 19 on Thursday, virtually faced magistrate Indira Misir-Gosine on Friday charged with robbery with violence and driving without a driver’s permit and a certificate of insurance.

The magistrate granted the accused woman $60,000 bail to cover all charges and adjourned the case to April 7.

Sgt Prescott laid the charges and Sgt Rodney Gangoo prosecuted.

Rampersad, mother of a two-year-old boy, lives at Tarodale, on the outskirts of San Fernando.

Attorney Candace Price asked the magistrate for reasonable bail, saying her client was not a flight risk. The attorney also said Rampersad went through a tremendous ordeal.

The charges stemmed from Tuesday’s armed robbery at a roti shop at Rochard Douglas Road in Barrackpore. It is alleged that Rampersad’s child father, Dane Boodoo, 21, a suspect, and another man robbed Carmen’s Roti Shop of some money.

The two men attempted to flee by running inside Sumanie Trace, where the woman was waiting in a getaway car.

A villager, an off-duty prison officer, shot Boodoo in his upper body during an alleged shootout. Boodoo died at the scene, and the accomplice remained on the run, up to Friday evening.

Police arrested Rampersad at the scene.
