The grandmother of 35-year-old murder victim Adeina “Deina”Alleyne called on women in abusive relationships to stand up for their rights.

Jean Alleyne, 85, said, “Stand up for your rights. I used to stand up for mine although I was never in an abusive relationship.”

For the past four months, Alleyne lived at her grandmother’s home at Lady Hailes Avenue, Embacadere in San Fernando. On Tuesday evening, Alleyne walked across to Building 5, Apt 34, with her two sons, seven and two, to drop them off at their father’s home where the family previously lived together.

Residents found Alleyne’s body with multiple stab wounds at about 7 pm after the older son alerted residents about the incident. They also found the body of the boys’ father, Dwight Waldron, also known as Quan, nearby. Waldron died by suicide.

Alleyne has a ten-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.

The grandmother recalled that Alleyne and Quan broke up several times and reunited over the past few years.

About three or four months ago, the two broke up after a fight. Since then, Alleyne and the children were staying with Jean.

Jean has 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She said Alleyne’s mother (her daughter) Victoria Alleyne died in 2007. An autopsy report said the death was inconclusive.

The Alleyne family spokesman and relative, Leon Phillip, said the community never had a murder-suicide before. The whole community, he said, is in mourning.

“She was a hardworking woman who loved her children,” he said. Quan worked as a security officer, and Alleyne, a supervisor at Puff N’ Stuff Bakery on Circular Road, San Fernando. A Facebook post from the bakery’s official page on Wednesday said, “We write this with heavy hearts today. Deina has been such a shining light here with us at Puff N’ Stuff. She wore many hats as supervisor, co-worker, and friend.”

The post referred to her as a fabulous mother, daughter and granddaughter.

“To have such a gracious soul taken from us so tragically has created a loss of words for us. We pray for her family, children, and friends during this difficult, difficult time,” the post said.

“We have lost a strong, beautiful, loving and caring woman so senselessly. We ask you to keep her and her family in your prayers. We pray for her eternal rest and salvation. Deina, you will be forever missed.

Investigations continue.
