QPCC dominate table tennis round two

QUEEN’s Park (QPCC) extended their dominant run of form in the Table Tennis Champions League by securing back-to-back victories at home at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain on Saturday.

Both wins for the club saw them maintain their position atop the seven-team standings on 25 points.

In their opening match against fifth ranked D’Abadie Youths (14 pts), QPCC won 3-2. Two wins from eventual Toppers MVP Derron Douglas and another from Joshua Maxwell in the decider proved pivotal. Douglas beat Declan John 11-4, 11-8, 12-10 in the first game but D’Abadie Youths’ Everton Sorzano pulled on back in the second to trump Maxwell 11-7, 11-9, 11-3.

D’Abadie’s Sarvesh Mungal then sent them ahead with an 11-6, 11-6, 10-12, 10-12 12-10 win over Javier King. Douglas, however, leveled up by trumping Everton Sorzano 11-5, 11-4, 11-5 while Maxwell separated the two with an 11-8, 6-11, 5-11, 11-9, 11-8 victory in the fifth and final game.

After a short break, the host team returned to the tables to conquer now third-ranked WASA (22 pts) 3-1.

Maxwell lost the opening game to WASA’s Curtis Humphreys 4-11, 4-11, 11-6, 11-9, 14-16. Douglas, however, began the QPCC fightback by conquering Alaric Humphreys 11-9, 8-11, 11-2, 11-5.

Edwards sent the league leaders ahead as he cruised past Kyle Borneo 11-9, 11-7, 11-2. Douglas then completed the win by getting past Curtis 11-1, 14-12, 8-11, 11-6 to seal pole position.

Earlier in the day, at the Calvary Community Centre, WASA swept Southerners 3-0 to stay in the top-three. Curtis battled past Terry Corbin 9-11, 13-11, 7-11, 12-10, 11-8; Alaric defeated Anson Lowkie 14-12, 11-5, 10-12, 13-11 while Borneo completed the sweep with a 9-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-9 result.
