Digicel Foundation upgrades play park

CHILDREN living in the Bon Air Gardens community can now enjoy supervised fun outdoor recreational activities at the newly upgraded EPIC community play park.

A release last week said the Digicel Foundation, through its EPIC (Extraordinary Projects Impacting Communities) initiative, approved a grant of $35,000 and collaborated with the Bon Air Gardens community council and the Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation for this community project.

The park located at Woodstar Avenue, Bon Air Gardens, Arouca, was given a facelift which included the repair and purchase of new play park equipment, installation of benches, installation of a gate, a fresh paint job and some minor landscaping, the release said.

President of the community council Gershwin Alexander said community empowerment with a focus on youth development must be practiced in order to “achieve the highest standards of national development.”

Councillor for Bon Air/Arouca/Cane Farm, Mr. Paul Leacock also donated play park equipment through the Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation.

Anne Marie Joseph, a Bon Air resident, said she was very excited about the upgraded play park since her daughter and many of the other children in the community who are at home from school can now play in the park during the afternoon.

The Digicel Foundation’s EPIC initiative is a small-grant initiative opened to registered community groups to fund small indoor and outdoor community projects.

To date, the Foundation has invested US$507,103 and partnered with various community groups to implement 104 initiatives, which have impacted over 36,000 persons throughout TT.
