Residents of Kelly Drive, Peytonville, Arima are happy and relieved that a main bridge in the community has finally been fixed.

The Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan commissioned the $1.5 million new bridge on Saturday morning.

Sinanan along with MP for the area D'Abadie/O'Meara Lisa Morris-Julian and other officials from both the PURE and Transport divisions were also present.

Although it is small bridge, Sinanan said it was very critical one for the area.

He explained that the bridge was completed months ago but there were a lot of work in the surrounding area to ensure flooding could be eliminated.

“The bridge collapsed and rather than replace the bridge the then corporation (Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation) left it built another bridge on top of it. The result of that was a lot of flooding in the area and a lot of damage to the residents' walls and property.”

“We had to repair the walls of residents near the bridge and the pavement and walkways.”

Sinanan boasted that the Pure division had 83 on going rehabilitation projects, including road repairs.

“Once the funding is available, we try our best to maintain the roads to the best of our abilities. There are five other bridges that should be completed by next month.

“We are working with WASA because we are trying not to run the WASA lines through the project. We are putting at the side, so in case there is a rupture of a WASA line it doesn’t affect the structure of the bridges.”
