September applications open for primary schools

Applications for admission to Infant year 1 are now open, the Ministry of Education said in an announcement on its Facebook page on Wednesday.

It said application forms for first year and public primary schools can be collected from schools or district offices from Monday.

The deadline for submission is March 19 and schools will contact the parents of successful applicants between May 14 and 28.

Minister of Education Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly announced the physical reopening of schools, beginning with secondary school students, who will come out on February 8 to prepare for practicals, school based assessments (SBAs) and internal assessments (IAs).

SEA students return at the start of the third term on April 12.

The ministry also released its guidelines for the reopening of schools. Gadsby-Dolly said the ministry is only considering a phased reopening as yet.

“It will on depend on the (covid19) numbers. We are still guided by the Ministry of Health, so at this time, we certainly cannot give a date for the full reopening of schools. But what we are proffering is how we intend to move towards that.”
