Soka in Moka apologises for connectivity issues

Soka in Moka Uploaded XXII – a virtual version of the annual Carnival event – issued a statement apologising for some internet connectivity issues and other issues which resulted in patrons not having the full experience on Sunday.

A statement on the Soka in Moka Foundation’s Facebook page on Monday said there will be a rebroadcast of the full concert “with potentially more entertainment value along with multiple opportunities to win various prizes as promised.”

The event was held on January 17 and featured artistes Aaron "Voice" St Louis, Olatunji Yearwood, Nadia Batson and Nailah Blackman among others. The annual event usually helps Trinity College, Moka with its expenses and is one of the staple events on TT’s Carnival calendar.

Some commenters on the foundation’s Facebook page said, “I was very disappointed with this virtual experience.”

Another said, “Thank you for stepping out of the box and providing a safe alternative. Supporting Soka in Moka thru thick and thin. Your apology is accepted and look forward to the full experience!”

Another thanked the foundation for addressing the matter saying that she planned to contact them about it.

The organisers thanked everyone who supported the event and added that it was truly “a pioneering idea” that incorporated cutting-edge technology.

“The artistes’ performances were nothing less than the top quality we have come to expect from them. This led to many patrons enjoying an action-packed virtual adventure.

“Unfortunately, there were some issues that resulted in some patrons not having the full spectacular experience. For this, we sincerely apologise and intent (sic) on reaching out to affected patrons to make up for inconveniences experienced.”

The committee said its registration process included additional levels of security to curb cyber piracy, but it led to a less-than-perfect experience for its patrons.

“Major internet connectivity issues which were beyond our control also resulted in challenges with the live stream.”

It said maximum value paid for by patrons will be delivered in the way planned and anticipated.

“We’re all operating in this new normal and thank those who continued to support our fund-raising efforts for the school. We also extend gratitude to our sponsors for having the faith to support what was the first of its kind.”

It added that it looked forward to Carnival 2022.
