The tiny Kingdom of Tobago

THE EDITOR: The Tobago Kingdom might be tiny.

With the THA elections carded for January 25, the current political atmosphere in Tobago is toxic. Whichever party wins this election has to be able to deliver some, if not all of the dreams of the inhabitants.

With global tourism on the back burner, this must be achieved in the middle of a pandemic with no immediate end in sight. Can the newbies, the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) make further inroads on the incumbent People's National Movement?

Or will the PDP lose the two seats they already have? The fact that the Deputy Leader of the PDP is registered to be Chief Secretary, should the PDP win, is of some concern. Ask yourself this: Will the president and true founding leader of the PDP be able to control his deputy and be the king behind the throne?

Unless there can be a firm understanding, it will be up to Tobagonians to decide if they want to take chances. It is possible that an in-name-only Chief Secretary will be just sitting there signing papers and acting as political window dressing. Who really cares?
