YOUTH Development and National Service Minister Fitzgerald Hinds on Sunday praised the performance of the 25 young people who participated in the virtual 18th National Youth Parliament on January 11. The youth parliamentarians debated a private motion entitled “Implementation of New Strategies for Bridging the Digital Divide in TT."

In a statement, Hinds declared, "I was truly buoyed to view the 18th National Youth Parliament Debate. It was certainly a show of youth who are passionate, intelligent and excellent researchers. These qualities align with my Ministry’s philosophy that youth should participate in decision-making for matters that impact them.”

He continued, "I must make mention of the leading debaters Khaleen Ali, Kemuel Pascall and Kobe Sandy who copped the top three spots at the debate. Their ability to think on their feet and respond to their peers were truly unmatched.

"Their diligence proves that debating is not exclusive to their female counterparts whom, historically, have dominated this field. They are exceptional examples for our young men to get involved in self-development activities and make positive contributions to our society."

Hinds also acknowledged the contribution of Analisa Ramsaran who assumed his portfolio in the youth parliament. He was pleased with Ramsaran's reference to the recently approved National Youth Policy.

"It was clear that she took the time to research and analyse the work of this ministry.”

He hoped that all youth parliamentarians and young people throughout the country would "familiarise themselves with the policy that will guide the youth agenda until 2025.”

Hinds hailed all 25 youth parliamentarians as "true patriots" and looked forward to seeing great things from them in their future endeavours.
