Fyzabad MP Dr Lackram P Bodoe is calling on Government to take action and treat with the many issues described by patients trying to get health care at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex before the entire health sector collapses.

In a release on Sunday, Bodoe said the problems raised by patients trying to access health care at the hospital should be a cause for concern.

This after a local newspaper highlighted complaints of long delays and rude staff at the hospital.

“It is ironic that whilst Trinidad and Tobago is in the fortunate position of having a “parallel health care system” to deal with covid19 cases, the conditions in the regular health system are worsening.

“One has to ask the question as to why this is so, especially when there are separate spaces and a separate budget for the parallel healthcare system,” Bodoe said.

Bodoe said he understood that in the early days of the pandemic certain “non-urgent” services would have been curtailed, but he added that the deferral of surgeries and clinic appointments is something that is emerging not only in Mt Hope, but in medical facilities across the country.

“(This) will only increase the burden of disease on the health sector and put us in a worse position when the pandemic is eventually conquered,” he said.
