A Santa Flora man was shot and killed near his home on Sunday morning.

Dead is Trevor "Saddest" Hospedales, 47, who lived off the SS Erin Road, a short distance from the police station.

Residents reported that they heard rapid gunshots shortly before 11 am and saw Hospedales’ motionless body on the road.

Residents said the killer, wearing a hoodie and mask, came out of a silver car near Jacob Settlement #1. He walked to an abandoned shack across the road and asked Hospedales’ sons for him. Next to the shack is a track that leads to the family’s home.

From what residents were told, the unsuspecting sons responded, "He somewhere down the road." The two then went home.

"At that time, there was no need for the children to be afraid of anything," said a resident who asked to remain unnamed.

Police believe that the gunman waited a few minutes at the shed for him to return. As Hospedales reached the shed, the killer began shooting and Hospedales attempted to run away.

He made it a short distance but the killer followed and continued to shoot in full view of passing drivers.

A resident recalled he was at the back of his home when he heard a round of gunshots. As he was walking outside to see what was happening, another round rang out. He said, in total, about 12 to 14 shots rang out.

He said he heard the victim say, "I ent do nothing boy."

The killer then ran off.

The resident said, "By the time I came out, I saw him lying on the road in blood. His sons did not know their father was shot. He died at the scene."

Residents alerted other members of the Hospedales family.

Relatives declined to speak to the media.

Police from the South Western Division and the Homicide Bureau Region III visited the scene and cordoned off the road, causing a traffic pile up for a few hours.

No one was arrested.
