Can America can solve migrant crisis?

THE EDITOR: Like Martin Luther King, I have a dream for the Venezuelan problem.

My dream is that sometime, in the not so distant future, that President-elect Joe Biden will lift all sanctions on Venezuela.

Why? Because I believe that should living conditions improve, quite a few Venezuelans will much prefer to return to their own country.

Not an impossible dream as dreams go. Granted T&T will always have economic migrants coming ashore in pirogues but the numbers will significantly dwindle.

Does it really matter if Nicolas Maduro is president? That is a Venezuelan problem, not ours. Our problem is that we are full to the gills with illegal economic migrants and choking. Frankly speaking, Caricom countries can do with relief from the widening Venezuelan problem.

It would be wonderful if America could humanely adjust their relations with Venezuela. Just ease up on the sanctions that have pauperised the Venezuelans.

Almost two million of them are now scattered around the world.

We have our own serious unemployment problems in TT. With the pandemic getting worse, even as we speak, we need to fix our own dreams.

Any person suggesting that we use Venezuelans for labour does not care about TT citizens being unemployed while we stroke the egos of interfering farse and out of place activists, Amnesty International and UNCHR.

What is wrong with dreaming?
