Williams, Youssef crowned Veteran Doubles champions

SONNY WILLIAMS and Farid Youssef were crowned champions of the 2020 Shell Tranquillity Open tennis tournament's veterans doubles division at the club's courts in Port of Spain on Friday.

Against Athelstan Phillips and Nicholas Sellier in the final, Williams and Youseff lost the opening set 7-5.

The pair clawed back to win the second set 6-4 and capped off a valiant fightback with a 10-6 triumph in the super tiebreak to lift the title.

Saturday's matches will see Williams begin his chase of a second Tranquillity trophy as he lines up against Rawle Boyce in the veterans singles semi-final.

In the other semi-final, top seed Richard McLetchie goes up against third seed Ricky Villaroel.

Additionally, the senior veterans singles semi-final will see top ranked Phillips facing Michael Pemberton and second see Gary Siwedass against Ken Aberdeen.
