Three months after a Penal man stole a bike from one of his neighbours, a magistrate jailed him for the crime.

Vishal Chattergoon, 34, who lives at Gopie Trace, faced a Siparia magistrate last Friday. After he pleaded guilty, the magistrate sentenced him to 30 days’ hard labour.

On Thursday, a police release said the victim, also of Gopie Trace, reported that he left his white mountain bike at home around 7 am on October 3. He returned after lunchtime and discovered the bike, valued at $8,000, missing.

The victim reported it to the police, who launched an investigation.

They recovered the bike and arrested Chattergoon on January 6. PC Heeralal of the Penal CID charged him the following day.
