One man is dead and another wounded after they reportedly attacked an off-duty policeman on Lady Chancellor Road, Port of Spain, on Wednesday night.
Police said the 33-year-old police constable was walking the hill – a popular exercising spot – with a friend at around 7.15 pm.

The officer told police he saw a gold Nissan Almera parked on the other side of the road with three men inside. One man got out of the car, pointed a gun at him and fired a shot.
The officer pulled out his licensed pistol and shot back several times, hitting the driver and the gunman.

Two men ran off into nearby bushes, leaving behind the driver, 35-year-old Franklyn De Freitas.
Officers from the Port of Spain Task Force led by Sgt Alexander took De Freitas to the Port of Spain General Hospital, where he died while being treated.

Police said a second suspect was arrested at the hospital when he went there to be treated for his gunshot wound. He is under police guard.
Port of Spain police are continuing enquiries.
