Fight over land leaves Santa Flora man with broken arm

A dispute over house and land at Santa Flora led to the arrest of a 35-year-old mason and his uncle, 53, for attacking a close male relative on Monday.

The two were expected to be jointly charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and malicious damage.

A police report said the victim was parking his car at Jacob Settlement in Santa Flora at 5.45 am on Monday when the relatives accosted him. One was armed with a crowbar and the other with a cutlass. They began arguing then dealt him several blows before leaving. Police said his left arm was broken. The car was also damaged.

Relatives contacted police, and WPC Alexis and PC Aguillera responded.

The injured man was taken to the Siparia District Health Facility. He was later transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital. On Wednesday, police confirmed he was discharged.

The uncle later went to the Santa Flora police station to report the incident, and police arrested him.

Once charged, the two will virtually face a Siparia magistrate.
