An early-morning police exercise in Morvant led to the arrest of eight people wanted for several offences, including murder, shootings and theft.

Police said members of the North Eastern Division Task Force, CID, gang unit and canine branch went to several areas in Morvant at around 4 am on Tuesday.

One man identified as the suspect in a Morvant murder last year was among those arrested, and five others were held for shooting. A woman was also arrested for a theft in Morvant.

Police also arrested another man for house-breaking in San Juan earlier this month. They said the exercise targeted suspected members of a newly-formed gang in Morvant.

The exercise was led by Snr Supt Maharaj, Supt Alexander and ASP Parriman with field operations by Insp Bharath, Sgts Ramsingh and Quashie, Cpls Majeed and Balram and PCs Mieres, Dass, Simon and Nanan.
