Indarsingh: Crime wave in Couva South

Rudranath Indarsingh, MP for Couva South, reported on Tuesday a theft suffered by the devotees of the Chinmaya Mission and the Chinmaya Vidyalaya pre-, primary and secondary schools in his constituency.

In a press release, Indarsingh said this is a new attack on the inhabitants of Couva South and Central Trinidad.

"The robbery of the mission and its education institute is the latest in home invasions, murders, burglaries at businesses and other wrenching crimes which have been perpetrated against the constituents of Couva South and Central Trinidad on the whole".

Indarsingh did not give details of the theft.

He strongly condemned what he called "the inaction of and seeming unwillingness" by the Prime Minister to protect the citizens of Central Trinidad.

As an MP, he said, "I am exhausted at having to beg this Government to attend to the safety of my constituents."

Indarsimgh said there had been meetings, letters, talks, media releases and press conferences, but no real sense that Couva had become safer.

"The functionally impotent Minister of National Security remains lethargic, short-sighted and armchair functionary of a failing state," he charged.

He said he would seek another meeting with the Minister of National Security and the Commissioner of Police ask them to deploy their energy and resources to address the escalating crime rate in the Freeport/Calcutta area and the constituency.

He added, "Prime Minister Rowley, you are the prime minister of the entire nation. Our lives and livelihoods are in your hands, and you cannot wash your hands of your responsibility as head of the National Security Council."
