A 22-year-old Siparia nurse who was beaten with a hammer by her ex-boyfriend is in stable condition after having surgery at the San Fernando General Hospital.

Family members say she is responsive and able to speak.
Jada Pierre – a geriatric nurse – of Bali Hosein Trace was found on Friday afternoon with severe head injuries in the forest reserve in Fyzabad.

Police took her to the Siparia Health Facility. She was later taken to the San Fernando General Hospital. She had several fractures and lacerations to the head.

A suspect is now in police custody.
When investigators interviewed Pierre, she said the suspect hit her several times on the head after declining his pleas to give him a second chance.

On Sunday morning, a close family member told Newsday Pierre was speaking.
“(The) doctor said it’s a good sign.”
