Carlista, Nabeel advance in Shell Tranquillity tennis

TOP seeds Carlista Mohammed and Nabeel Mohammed were both victorious when the Shell Tranquillity Open Tennis tournament continued at the Tranquillity Courts at Victoria Avenue, Port of Spain, on Saturday.

Rain affected matches as the quarterfinals of the men’s singles were not completed.

In the women’s singles quarterfinals, Carlista defeated Zara Ghuran 6-1, 6-4 to progress to the next round.

Also booking a place in the semifinals were Osenyonye Nwokolo, Cameron Wong and Ella Carrington.

Second-seed Nwokolo fought from a set down to outlast Maria Honore 4-6, 6-2, 6-0.

Wong and Carrington both won in straight sets getting past Jordane Dookie and Aalisha Alexis respectively. Wong emerged victorious 6-4, 7-5 and Carrington prevailed with a 6-2, 7-6 (3) victory.

Matches in the men’s singles round of 16 were completed. Nabeel eased into the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Liu Chin.

In other matches, Ethan Wong topped Ronald Robinson 6-2, 6-1, Keshan Moonasar outlasted Dexter Mahase 6-3, 6-3 and Akiel Duke eased past Joshua Boyce 6-0, 6-0.

The tournament continues at 10 am, on Sunday.
