VETERAN broadcaster Sandra Maharaj is leaving state-owned TV station TTT with immediate effect.

TTT CEO David Roberts on Friday told Newsday, “Her contract was not renewed. So it was not a termination or a firing, as some are saying. That is inaccurate. Her contract was not renewed.”

Roberts said it would be inappropriate to give any more specifics of Maharaj’s employment as TTT's head of news.

He repeated, “I can tell you the contact would have expired and it was not renewed.”

He confirmed that head of radio programming Gail Seegobin was also leaving TTT.

Asked if TTT would seek replacements in these posts, Roberts said, “These roles will be advertised internally and externally in the coming weeks.”

Newsday was unable to contact Maharaj. However, a source close to her told Newsday that the news had come as a shock to the media veteran, who had been left in disbelief.

The source said, “There was nothing to suggest anything like this was coming, or any need for it.”
