Smoking truck carrying diesel on highway causes traffic

Officers from the Chaguanas fire station prevented a potential disaster on Thursday when they responded to a report about smoke coming from a truck transporting fuel.

Reports are at about 8.15 am, the driver Bobbie Deokaran was transporting diesel fuel on the southbound lane of the Solomon Hochoy Highway near Chase Village when he saw smoke at the front of the tanker.

He parked at the side of the highway and contacted fire and police officers. The fire officers prevented the smoke and heat from the engine area from bursting into flame.

Deokaran spoke briefly to Newsday, saying "a line" blew, causing the smoke.

The incident caused traffic to pile up. Police eventually allowed drivers to pass.
